Eco-friendly toner or toner cartridges are becoming increasingly popular over the past years, providing users with another alternative cartridge aside from the OEMs (original equipment manufacturers). So how did they got the term "eco-friendly cartridges", well, these cartridges to start first are recycled. Unlike compatible toner cartridges or OEM cartridges, these printer consumables aren't entirely built from scratch, they are used OEM parts that are refurbished and tested several times to make sure they perform at their best and deliver the same output and page yield as new toner cartridges do.

And so what's the real deal about them?

Though eco-friendly toner cartridges may cause some printer user's eyebrows to raise and question their quality, these toner cartridges are expertly built by professional technicians to ensure that they meet the highest standards in the printing industry set by OEM toner cartridges. They are first sorted empty toner cartridges, checked and inspected them for dents and problems then choose the best to be recycled and used again. Other components that are damaged are then replaced with  recycled parts from OEM toner cartridges then are cleaned and assembled, refurbished and be filled with new toner powder. Abstract Art Created Through Inkjet Printer

Inkjet printers have always been popular when it comes to producing lab-quality digital photos stored in our personal computers and laptops but one artist was able to use it in creating a work of art. Campbell Laird, an award-winning modern contemporary artist based on Venice, created his piece by using a single vector shape which is printed multiple times at the same sheet of paper, resulting into a thousand swirls of lines and curves with different colors overlapping each other.

"I have very little idea of how the art will turn out," Laird explains. "It just grows organically with each new pass." According to TheVerge.com, "Each piece represents 5-7 hours of work, and as Laird notes, the process can take its toll on your printer — in his case that means "thousands of dollars of damage." The price we pay for art."

Why Should You Recycle Toner Cartridges?

According to reports, there are approximately 375 million toner cartridges that end up in our landfills every year. This calculation just shows that there are perhaps 11 toner cartridges thrown in a trash bin every second. This rate wouldn't be that alarming if only these toner cartridges are as biodegradable as a piece of paper but they're not. A single toner cartridge is composed of non-biodegradable materials such as plastic, metal, foam and toner that it takes barely 1,000 years for that cartridge to decompose.

And believe or not, if you put those 375 million cartridges end to end, you can circle the Earth three times over. Now, that is alarming! Tossing those toner cartridges over the bin may be more damaging as you thought it could be. In one toner cartridge, 3 quartz of oil is burned and used for its production. But if you will sum up the total of the oil used in one toner cartridge including its materials and transport then one toner cartridge is approximately made up of one gallon of oil.

Here's an infographic to let you further understand the scenario:
